As of Monday, July 16, the City of Twentynine Palms officially opened the candidate filing period for local citizens interested in running for public office in the Tuesday, November 6, 2012, Presidential General Election in San Bernardino County. The filing period extends until 6 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2012.
Two four-year term seats are open on the Twentynine Palms City Council this year. Potential candidates who want to run for office are asked to contact Cindy Villescas, Acting City Clerk, at City Hall at (760) 367-6799 and request an appointment to obtain the initial candidacy filing paperwork, which includes an application, election materials, and various forms necessary for the nomination and election process.
A $37 initial filing fee will be required at the time of filing, and potential candidates should allow at least 24 hours advance notice for scheduling an appointment.
All qualified candidates will receive informational handbooks upon filing for candidacy. A copy of the San Bernardino County Elections Office 2012 Candidate Filing Guide is also available on the City’s website at www.29palms.org.
